About
Stein Torleif Bjella made a name for himself with his solo debut "Heidersmenn" in 2009. Two years later, "Vonde Visu" secured him the Spellemann Award, and in 2013 he completed his album trilogy with "Heim for å døy", which topped the VG chart. Since then, Bjella has released critically acclaimed albums such as "Gode Liv", "Øvre-Ål Toneakademi", and "Nysetmåne". He has collaborated with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra on "Bjellasangar", arranged for brass and woodwind, and explored spoken word improvisation with his band. In addition, he has received numerous accolades, including the Edvard Prize and the Prøysen Prize.
Bjella’s music is often described as a blend of melancholic joy and romantic heartbreak, where one eye laughs while the other cries. His music has also inspired theatrical productions, such as the successful "Kan nokon gripe inn" and the play "Heil ved", based on Lars Mytting's novel, which continues to be performed at the Norwegian Theatre.
In addition to his music, Stein Torleif Bjella is a respected author, with the poetry collection "Jordsjukantologien" Nr. 1 and the novel "Fiskehuset". The latter was nominated for the P2 Listeners' Novel Prize and won the Nynorsk Literature Prize.
Bjella occupies a unique place in Norwegian music, with a rare ability to connect with both rural and urban audiences through his honest, down-to-earth, yet poetic lyrics.
With timeless songs like "Romantikken gjer meg sjuk", "Psykisk kan du vera sjøl", "Heidersmann", "Tilbake i det blå", and countless others, there is plenty to look forward to—something everyone who has attended one of his concerts can attest to. And we haven’t even mentioned his enduring tradition of raffling off a fruit basket at every concert since the very beginning.
