About

Helloween on Tour

Helloween is a German speed/power metal band that was formed in 1984 by vocalist Kai Hansen, guitarist Michael Weikath, bassist Markus Grosskopf, and drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg. The band is known for its significant influence on the genre and is considered one of the first power metal bands to emerge in the mid-1980s.

The name "Helloween" was chosen instead of "Halloween" because it incorporates the words "hello" and "hell." Furthermore, another band named Halloween already existed, so a name change allowed Helloween to have their own unique name.

Throughout their existence, Helloween has explored various genres, but their most important release is arguably the Keeper of the Seven Keys series, which was released in 1987-88. These albums are regarded as groundbreaking within the genre. From 1984 to 2007, the band released 13 studio albums, two EPs, three live albums, and nine compilation albums.

In 2002, drummer Mark Cross and former Freedom Call guitarist Sascha Gerstner were recruited after the band dismissed two members. In 2003, they began recording their tenth studio album, but due to health issues, Mark Cross had to leave the band. Mikkey Dee, former drummer for King Diamond and Motörhead, stepped in and completed the drumming on the album. Dani Löble was later hired as the new drummer. With this new lineup, Helloween started recording the follow-up to the Keeper of the Seven Keys albums..

Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy was released in 2005 and received highly positive reviews. The album resulted in the release of a live DVD and a double CD titled Live on 3 Continents and Live in Sao Paulo. In 2007, Helloween released the album Gambling with the Devil and embarked on a world tour with Gamma Ray and Axxis. In 2013, the album Straight out of Hell was released.

Helloween has a strong presence in the power metal genre and has remained an active force in music over the years.
