Girl in Red Tickets

It was earnestness, intimacy and a knack for perfect indie-pop gems that catapulted Marie Ulven — aka Girl in Red (often stylized in all lowercase) — onto the international stage from her private lovelorn teenage life in Horten, Norway. Blessed with an air of honesty that seems impervious to overnight fame, she carries those same qualities into her live sets. Backed by a band of boys who have been known to dress in all red, Girl in Red makes crowds feel like they've been invited to a backyard party that just happens to have an excellent lo-fi rock outfit playing next to the keg. Those raw emotions and diary-like lyrics come to life as Ulven's in-person passion overcomes all that beautiful on-album ennui — even the most melancholic melodies feel electric when she shreds her guitar from under a long veil of blond hair. Although it was unrequited love that inspired her to start writing songs — her viral debut "I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend" was about falling in love with her straight best friend — Ulven finds affection wherever she goes. Expect a deafening sing-along.

Ulven grew up just south of Oslo and first picked up a guitar at the age of 14. She spent a couple of years just improvising and singing, and even had a false start as an artist working with local producers, before heartache drove her to find her sound on her own in a series of home GarageBand sessions. In 2017, she self-released the song that she needed to hear in order to get past her pain — "I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend" — and watched in awe as it became clear that others needed it too. That sunny bummer of a track not only landed on Pride: A Compilation of LGBTQ for GLSEN in 2018, it was dubbed the ninth best song of the year by The New York Times.

It's been 5 years since Girl in Red last played a club concert in Norway, at a sold-out Parkteatret in Oslo in December 2019. Since then, the girl from Horten has played sold-out concerts all over the world, including major festivals like Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and Coachella, toured with Billie Eilish and Conan Gray, won the Spellemann award for Album of the Year and Best Artist, been nominated for BBC's Sound of 2021, and won the Telenor Culture Prize 2022. Several of her songs have now reached tens of millions of streams on Spotify. Last but certainly not least, she spent a month as the opening act for none other than Taylor Swift on the North American leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour.

Girl in Red will release the highly anticipated album 'I'M DOING IT AGAIN BABY' on April 12. Finally, on October 3, she will perform in Norway again, and for the first time at Oslo Spektrum.
